  • What are your Covid-19 protocols?
Playwise Preschool Academy follows infection control recommendations made by the US CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and the NC Department of Health and Human Services. At this time, the following protocols are in place: - As of March 7, 2022, Playwise has implemented a mask-optional policy. Parents may use their discretion to determine whether their child should wear a mask. All staff members will ensure that students follow parent preferences regarding mask-wearing. - Staff and/or students with Covid-19 or any cold/flu-like symptoms will not be admitted for the day. - As always, we require emergency contact numbers and access to communication with you while your child is in our care. We adhere to a strict policy of sending children home if we feel uncomfortable in any way, regarding the spread of any germs. - We require students and staff to wash hands when entering the building in the morning, as well as between all transitions (after recess, before snack and lunch, and after all bathroom breaks). - We have increased the time spent before, during, and after school for sanitation of our classrooms, indoor/outdoor equipment and bathrooms (especially high-touch areas such as doorknobs, art supplies, toys, etc.). - Children will need to bring their own labeled water bottles, as our water fountains will be disconnected until further notice. We can refill water bottles using store-bought, filtered water in our refrigerator.
  • Do you follow Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools calendar?
Playwise follows the CMS school calendar for holidays, teacher workdays, and vacation days. Our regular school year runs from September through May. Our first day of school is the day after Labor Day and our last day of school is before Memorial Day.
  • Do you offer field trips or other special programs throughout the year?
Each class participates in at least one off-site field trip during the school year. Our field trips are fun family events, and we inform parents of our trips, dates and details ahead of time in our monthly newsletters! Additional enrichment activities vary per year and include Scholastic Book Fairs, family events, special guest readers, Halloween costume parties, winter/holiday programs, hands-on animal studies, Children’s Theater performances, field day, and special visitors from firefighters, dentists and others who love to share their special talents with our students.
  • Does my child need to be potty-trained?
We request that your child be potty-trained before enrolling at Playwise. We will remind and encourage your child to use the bathroom frequently throughout the day, and we will assist in the bathroom as needed. However, we require students to be working towards independence when using the bathroom, without diapers or pull-ups.
  • Do the children eat a snack at school?
All of our classes have a set snack time at school each day. Children develop skills in socialization, manners, language and nutrition during snack time. All children are encouraged to clean up their supplies when done, which promotes independence and responsibility. Due to allergies and food restrictions, we request that each family send in a healthy snack and a water bottle for their own child each day. Please note that we are a peanut and tree nut free school.
  • Do the children eat lunch at school?
Morning Pre-K and TK students bring their lunches packed in a lunch box, tote, or bag. We have a refrigerator and microwave, and we can assist in meal preparation, if needed. Children enjoy eating lunch with their friends, and it prepares them for lunch at school in kindergarten and beyond. Please note that our Morning 3s and Afternoon Pre-K classes do not eat lunch at school… however, they do have a snack time each day. Please note that we are a peanut- and tree nut-free school.
  • Can my child attend Playwise during the summer?
Regular classes are not in session during the summer, but we do offer several fun, theme-based summer camps, which run throughout the months of June and July. Summer camp registration begins in late winter/early spring. Visit our Summer Camp page to learn more about our wonderful summer programs!
  • Is there a registration fee?
A $150 enrollment fee is required with new registration forms.
  • Do you offer a full-day option?
We only offer half-day school programs, either in the morning or afternoon sessions.
